JOURNEY

Iyya, also known as Reesha Shareef, is a film director and TV producer from Male', Maldives.
From a young age, Iyya discovered her love for capturing moments through her camera lens, and she was fortunate enough to be surrounded by friends who shared her creative passions. It was during her time in high school in Penang that Iyya's passion for filmmaking truly took root when she enrolled in an extra-curricular class that ignited her creative spark. However, upon returning to Maldives in 2011, she harboured doubts about pursuing a career in filmmaking, as she believed it might not provide the financial stability she sought.

Driven by the desire to make a difference, she embarked on a path in international relations, dedicating five years of her life to tackling pressing social issues in her home country. During this time, she worked tirelessly to create positive change but became disheartened by the slow progress. Fueled by a newfound determination, Iyya made a bold decision to completely transform her life and wholeheartedly pursue her true passion for filmmaking.

Her breakthrough in television broadcasting came with her work on the critically acclaimed program called "Ihusaas," a show centred around social issues which received the award for "TV Program of the Year on Social Issues (2022)," a recognition that served as a poignant validation of her artistic journey.

Having completed her degree at Raindance Film School in London, Iyya has delved into a multitude of international film and television projects, propelling her directorial career to a global level. Her genuine passion revolves around crafting human documentaries and narrative films that bear deep significance, igniting social change.
